30 Mar How to configure Felfil Spooler to extrude high quality filament
It takes just a few, simple steps to get high quality 3D printing filament with Felfil Spooler: here are some tips.
A few months ago, when we designed Felfil Spooler, we tried to create a complementary tool to Felfil Evo, which automatically could wind the extruded filament.
Today we can say that domestic extrusion has never been easier!
We know that one of the most tedious elements in the use of Felfil Evo is exactly winding the filament. Nothing too long or complicated, but certainly annoying during everyday use. With Felfil Spooler there is no longer any need to perform this task manually: the machine will take care of it, and automatically adjust the filament diameter as well.
For everything to work properly, it is very important to configure both Felfil Evo and the Spooler in the best way. But no worries, we have a brief guide for you.
First of all, you need to connect the fans to the Spooler through with cable and connect the latter to the power supply. After turning on the Spooler, just wait a few moments for the automatic travel calibration procedure to complete.
Now fix the empty spool on the support and prepare the system for the extrusion: place the fans, the Spooler and Felfil Evo in line on a surface, at a distance of 10 cm from each other.
Then, the system will ask you to choose the mode. Depending on the material that you are working with:
- Soft: PLA
- Medium: PET-G
- Hard: ABS
- Manual: Custom
If needed it is also possible to work in manual mode for materials other than those listed.
At the same time, it is possible to set the desired diameter for the filament (the supported range is from 0.5 mm to 3 mm).
After these parameters are set, it is still necessary to do a small operation on the spool: since they have different different diameters, you have to measure it and send its value (in mm) to the Spooler via the display interface (this is to calibrate the travel).
Now everything is ready to start the extrusion with Felfil Evo!

When the extrusion starts
Once the filament begins to come out of the nozzle, it must be passed through the ventilation system through the metal supports, and from there lead it towards the sensor for measuring the diameter. We recommend using a simple tweezer to facilitate the operation.
When the measuring sensor detects the presence of filament, the empty spool begins to turn. The last thing you are required to do is to pass the filament through the distribution eyelet, and from there to finally secure it to the spool.
The Spooler will keep the diameter constant, and the rotation speed of the spool will be adjusted accordingly.
