28 Feb It’s breakfast time: how to create coffee based filament for 3D printing
Hello everyone, it’s breakfast time here in Felfil!
Today we want to show you how to use Felfil Evo to make colored (and aromatic!) filament for 3D printing using a mixture of coffee powder and PLA. The “recipe” is simple, as is the procedure: here’s how.
Ingredients:
- 300 grams (0,66 lb) of PLA;
- 15 grams (0.03 lb) of coffee powder (espresso, we tried with coffee for mocha, but the grains are too thick and get stuck in the extruder);
- a Felfil Evo ready to extrude.
How to:
- First, mix coffee and PLA (we recommend using a can and shaking well). The ideal is to maintain a proportion of 5% between the two elements;
- Next, pour the mixture thus obtained into the Felfil Evo tank;
- At this point, turn on the Felfil Evo and wait until it reaches the temperature of use;
- Set the usage parameters that we recommend in this case: temperature at 180° and 7 RPM;
- Let Felfil Evo complete the extrusion and…
- Ready to print!
You can see the whole process to extrude coffee and PLA in the video on our YouTube channel. We have used the filament thus obtained to make a coffee cup, but you can print the objects you prefer: in any case, during printing you should feel a pleasant aroma.
Warning: it is not a filament suitable for food use.
Felfil Evo allows you to experiment with extrusion with different materials, not just with coffee: for example, some time ago we created a filament using PLA and ground mussel shells.
